In 2009, Kimmie Orani-Spears began working at Tenuta Vineyards in their tasting room, it was there she learned of the Enology and Viticulture Program at the Livermore’s own Las Positas College. She immediately enrolled and the dream of Embodied Wines was born.
During her education, Kimmie interned with female winemaker and winery owner Nancy Tenuta, of Tenuta Vineyards. After her internship, Kimmie decided to expand her experience with other local wineries and spent time in the tasting rooms and cellars of names like Wood Family Vineyards with female Winemaker and winery owner Rhonda Wood, Occasio Winery with John Kinney, McGrail Vineyards with Mark Clarin, and Rodrigue Molyneaux with Garry Rodrigue. She also judged in local wine competitions like Livermore Uncorked, Contra Costa Winegrowers Association Competition, and the Cabernet and Pinot Shootouts. Kimmie worked with local restaurants conducting consumer wine tasting courses, employee trainings, food and wine pairing notes, and wine reviews.
Desiring to explore the industry even further, Kimmie spent 4 years in wine distribution servicing from small restaurants to national chain accounts, taking advantage of the opportunity to taste wines of many styles from many regions around the world. Kimmie believes that all aspects of wine are equally important, from soil, to barrel, to bottle, to placement in the consumers hand. Every person she has encountered on her journey has played a role in designing what Embodied Wines is and hopes to become. One of the most influential winemakers Kimmie worked with stressed that truly great opportunities arise scarcely and are easily lost. When Embodied Wines became more than just a pipe dream, now a tangible embodiment of a dream, Kimmie did not hesitate.
